Site description
Vast wetland complex comprising three large marshes and bogs, interspersed by partially drained and canalized flood-plains of the Aiviekste river and its tributaries. Listed as an IBA since 1994 [6, 7, 1], with the boundaries and the former site name 'Baltie Klani marshes and bogs' modified repeatedly. Partially protected: there is a 76.8% overlap with four restricted nature reserves and candidate SPAs: Lagazu - Snitkas bog, Berzpils bog, Salas bog, and Parabaine. A large part of the unprotected area is covered by flood-plain grasslands
