Site description
A polder complex near Pärnu town in western Estonia. The land is used for haymaking and cattle-grazing.



Key biodiversity
Audru polder is an important staging area for migrating wildfowl, especially Cygnus columbianus for which it is the most important staging site in Europe in spring. The site holds 20,000 or more waterbirds on a regular basis.



Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
The main threats are the intensification of agriculture in some areas and the reduction of land management in other areas, as well as unsustainable hunting. The area requires moderate agricultural activity to maintain habitat suitable for key bird species. Research involves the monitoring of migrating waterbirds.
