The depth ranges from 1897 to 6155 m, with a mean annual wind speed of 2.85 m/s, mean annual sea surface temperature falls between 4.5 and 9.84 °C and mean annual chlorophyll-a concentrations found to range between 0.32 and 0.59 mg/m3.

BirdLife analyses of tracking data estimates that 1342-2684 individuals of Wandering Albatross (VU) from South Georgia are present at the site during the Sabbatical (Nov-Feb) life-history stage. 31205-35105 individuals of Grey-headed Albatross (VU) from South Georgia are present at the site during the Non-breeding (Oct-Jun) life-history stage.
