The site covers an area of 72610 km2 and is 830 km away from the closet coastline. The depth ranges from 4323 to 5224 m, with a mean annual wind speed of 2.9 m/s, mean annual sea surface temperature falls between 6.95 and 10.47 °C and mean annual chlorophyll-a concentrations found to range between 0.32 and 0.47 mg/m3.

BirdLife analyses of tracking data estimates that 31205-35105 individuals of Grey-headed Albatross (VU) from South Georgia are present at the site during the Non-breeding (Jun-Aug, Nov) life-history stage. 599-1498 individuals of Wandering Albatross (VU) from South Georgia are present at the site during the Juvenile (Nov-Mar) life-history stage.
