Site description
This Marine IBA is identified using tracking data. It falls within the Falkland Islands (Malvinas) Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) and the Atlantic, Southwest FAO ocean region. The site covers an area of 51316 km2 and is 110 km away from the closet coastline. The depth ranges from 163 to 1471 m, with a mean annual wind speed of 2.7 m/s, mean annual sea surface temperature falls between 5.81 and 7.61 °C and mean annual chlorophyll-a concentrations found to range between 0.3 and 1.08 mg/m3.

Key biodiversity
2 species trigger IBA criteria at this Marine IBA. BirdLife analyses of tracking data estimates that 3103-6006 individuals of Northern Giant-petrel (LC) from South Georgia are present at the site during the Non-breeding (Dec-Oct) life-history stage. 31205-42907 individuals of Grey-headed Albatross (VU) from South Georgia are present at the site during the Non-breeding (Jan, Jun-Sep) life-history stage.
