This Marine IBA is identified using tracking data. It falls within the South Africa Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) and the Atlantic, Southeast FAO ocean region. The site covers an area of 26134 km2 and is 268 km away from the closet coastline. The depth ranges from 3558 to 4589 m, with a mean annual wind speed of 2.16 m/s, mean annual sea surface temperature falls between 18.1 and 18.42 °C and mean annual chlorophyll-a concentrations found to range between 0.24 and 0.33 mg/m3.

BirdLife analyses of tracking data estimates that 2537-3045 individuals of Atlantic Yellow-nosed Albatross (EN) from Gough Island are present at the site during the Incubation (Sep-Nov) life-history stage. 17700-21240 individuals of White-chinned Petrel (VU) from Iles Crozet are present at the site during the Non-breeding (Apr-Aug) life-history stage. 168480-311983 individuals of White-chinned Petrel (VU) from Iles Kerguelen are present at the site during the Non-breeding (Apr-Aug) life-history stage.
