The site covers an area of 43272 km2 and is 112 km away from the closet coastline. The depth ranges from 2392 to 4831 m, with a mean annual wind speed of 2.49 m/s, mean annual sea surface temperature falls between 20.18 and 22.27 °C and mean annual chlorophyll-a concentrations found to range between 0.21 and 0.47 mg/m3.
2 species trigger IBA criteria at this Marine IBA. BirdLife analyses of tracking data estimates that 5-5 individuals of Amsterdam Albatross (CR) from Ile Amsterdam are present at the site during the Juvenile (Mar-Apr) life-history stage. 23400-70200 individuals of White-chinned Petrel (VU) from Iles Kerguelen are present at the site during the Juvenile (Jun-Aug) life-history stage.
