This Marine IBA is identified using tracking data. It falls within the Antarctica Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) and the Atlantic, Antarctic FAO ocean region. The site covers an area of 3554 km2 and is 79 km away from the closet coastline. The depth ranges from 1909 to 4240 m, with a mean annual wind speed of 2.87 m/s, mean annual sea surface temperature falls between 0.24 and 0.65 °C and mean annual chlorophyll-a concentrations found to range between 0.52 and 0.95 mg/m3.
2 species trigger IBA criteria at this Marine IBA. BirdLife analyses of tracking data estimates that 1350-1534 individuals of Light-mantled Albatross (NT) from South Georgia are present at the site during the Post-guard (Feb-Jun) life-history stage. 177-224 individuals of White-chinned Petrel (VU) from South Georgia are present at the site during the Post-guard (Jan-May) life-history stage.
