Site description
This Marine IBA is identified using both tracking data and seaward extensions around breeding colonies. It falls within the Seychelles Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) and the Indian Ocean, Western FAO ocean region. The site covers an area of 214604 km2 and is 257 km away from the closet coastline. The depth ranges from 0 to 4832 m, with a mean annual wind speed of 1.79 m/s, mean annual sea surface temperature falls between 26.44 and 27.56 °C and mean annual chlorophyll-a concentrations found to range between 0.14 and 0.61 mg/m3.

Key biodiversity
10 species trigger IBA criteria at this Marine IBA. BirdLife analyses of tracking data estimates that 750-5077 individuals of Greater Frigatebird (LC) from Aldabra are present at the site during the Breeding (Year-Round) life-history stage. Seaward extensions around breeding colonies; Cosmoledo atoll, Aldabra atoll include key near-colony areas for breeding populations of Great Crested Tern (LC) 150-750 individuals, Sooty Tern (LC) 1320000-2640000 individuals, Masked Booby (LC) 1500-15300 individuals, Lesser Frigatebird (LC) 18000-18000 individuals, Greater Frigatebird (LC) 12000-12000 individuals, White-tailed Tropicbird (LC) 7500-7500 individuals, Red-tailed Tropicbird (LC) 5850-6300 individuals, Black-naped Tern (LC) 360-750 individuals and Red-footed Booby (LC) 6300-56100 individuals.
