Site description (baseline)
The site consists of a section of the mostly open and highly natural Aiviekste river flood-plain. It comprises significant areas of natural and regularly flooded meadows. Listed as an IBA since 2000 [2, 1]. Fully protected: there is a 99.7% overlap with the newly designated Aiviekste flood-plain nature park, a candidate SPA. The gap between IBA and pSPA boundaries is due to differences in methods in boundary setting.
