It falls within the Seychelles Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) and the Indian Ocean, Western FAO ocean region. The site covers an area of 115983 km2 and is 748 km away from the closet coastline. The depth ranges from 0 to 5162 m, with a mean annual wind speed of 1.57 m/s, mean annual sea surface temperature falls between 27.24 and 27.83 °C and mean annual chlorophyll-a concentrations found to range between 0.16 and 0.61 mg/m3.
9 species trigger IBA criteria at this Marine IBA. BirdLife analyses of tracking data estimates that 750-5077 individuals of Greater Frigatebird (LC) from Aldabra are present at the site during the Breeding (Year-Round) life-history stage. 14400-36000 individuals of Wedge-Tailed Shearwater (LC) from D'Arros are present at the site during the Breeding (Aug-Mar) life-history stage. Seaward extensions around breeding colonies; African Banks, Marie Louise island, Etoile island, Boudeuse island, Desnoeufs island include key near-colony areas for breeding populations of Lesser Noddy (LC) 3000-12000 individuals, Common White Tern (LC) 6000-12000 individuals, Roseate Tern (LC) 195-570 individuals, Masked Booby (LC) 900-12750 individuals, Black-naped Tern (LC) 30-30 individuals, Brown Noddy (LC) 4500-55200 individuals and Sooty Tern (LC) 438000-1224000 individuals.
