This is important as a stop-over site for passage wildfowl and waders, as well as for wintering wildfowl (for example, Anas penelope
, Aythya fuligula
and Bucephala clangula

Undergrazing is a problem. A Ramsar Site (1,960 ha) is likely to be designated in the near future.
