A fish-farm situated on the flood-plain of the River Olt. There are five large ponds and 9-10 smaller ones. The ponds have an extensive covering of reed Phragmites, bulrush Scirpus and other aquatic plants. Cultivated fields and patches of Salix scrub surround the ponds.
The site is important for breeding and passage waterbirds, particularly herons, ducks and waders. Species of global conservation concern that do not meet IBA criteria: Phalacrocorax pygmeus (non-breeding) and Aythya nyroca (passage).
Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
The main threats are fluctuations in water-level and the cutting and burning of reed.
