Site description (2000 baseline):

The IBA is the site of a former large lake, drained at the beginning of the 20th century. Standing fresh water, reedbeds (Phragmites) and wet ruderal areas exist with arable land on higher sites.

The site is important for breeding and roosting waterbirds.

National Partial International None448 ha of IBA covered by Nature Reserve (Salziger See, 448 ha).
