Site description
Flood-plain of the slow-flowing River Elbe with remnant riverine forests, oxbow lakes, wet grassland, flooded meadows and dunes.
Key biodiversity
The site holds 20,000 or more waterbirds in winter, on a regular basis. The site is a migratory bottleneck, where more than 3,000 Grus grus regularly pass. Species of global conservation concern that do not meet IBA criteria: Anser erythropus (wintering).
