Site description (2000 baseline)
Several raised bogs, separated and surrounded by vast, mixed, mainly wet forests, near the Estonian border. The area is relatively unaffected by human activities, which include forestry, hunting and cranberry Vaccinium collecting.
Key biodiversity
The site is an important staging area for migrating geese (Anser fabalis, A. albifrons), although no precise counts have been made. There is a diverse assemblage of breeding birds of forest and bog.
