Site description (2012 baseline):

Site location and context
This Marine IBA is identified using seaward extensions around breeding colonies. It originates from the Greenland (to Denmark) Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) and falls within the Atlantic, Northwest FAO ocean region. The site covers an area of 4635 km2 and borders the coastline. The depth ranges from 0 to 481 m and mean annual sea surface temperature falls between -0.03 and 3.47 °C.

Key biodiversity
1 species triggers IBA criteria at this Marine IBA. Seaward extensions around breeding colony; Islands and waters south and west of Upernavik town include key near-colony areas for breeding populations of Black-legged Kittiwake (LC) 4844-9203 individuals.
