Site location and context
This Marine IBA is identified using seaward extensions around breeding colonies. It originates from the Australia Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) and falls within the Pacific, Western Central FAO ocean region. The site covers an area of 32952 km2 and is 22 km away from the closet coastline. The depth ranges from 0 to 3055 m, with a mean annual wind speed of 1.99 m/s and mean annual sea surface temperature falls between 26.29 and 26.95 °C.

8 species trigger IBA criteria at this Marine IBA. Seaward extensions around breeding colonies; Cape York to Cape Grenville Islands (Great Barrier Reef), Islands north of Port Stewart (Great Barrier Reef), Piper Islands (Great Barrier Reef), Raine Island, Moulter & Maclennan Cays (Great Barrier Reef) include key near-colony areas for breeding populations of Brown Noddy (LC) 25000-12000 individuals, Lesser Frigatebird (LC) 2100-4980 individuals, Masked Booby (LC) 210-6375 individuals, Black Noddy (LC) 36250-58000 individuals, Brown Booby (LC) 1500-4800 individuals, Bridled Tern (LC) 9000-14400 individuals, Lesser Crested Tern (LC) 1500-1500 individuals and Roseate Tern (LC) 11700-17100 individuals.
