The site covers an area of 41237 km2 and is 716 km away from the closet coastline. The depth ranges from 0 to 3457 m, with a mean annual wind speed of 3.09 m/s, mean annual sea surface temperature falls between -0.87 and 0.69 °C and mean annual chlorophyll-a concentrations found to range between 0.21 and 3.87 mg/m3.
