The depth ranges from 0 to 8087 m and with a mean annual wind speed of 1.92 m/s.

BirdLife analyses of tracking data estimates that 2352-2613 individuals of Northern Royal Albatross (EN) from New Zealand are present at the site during the Non-breeding (Year-Round) life-history stage. 72000-180000 individuals of White-chinned Petrel (VU) from Antipodes Islands are present at the site during the Non-breeding (Jun-Aug) life-history stage. 3000-4500 individuals of Westland Petrel (VU) from Punakaiki are present at the site during the Non-breeding (Nov-Feb) life-history stage. 6255-15638 individuals of Buller's Albatross (NT) from Snares Islands/Tini Heke are present at the site during the Non-breeding (Oct-Dec) life-history stage. 3960-9240 individuals of Chatham Albatross (VU) from Chatham Islands/Rekohu/Wharekauri are present at the site during the Non-breeding (Apr-May) life-history stage. 9900-10703 individuals of Black-browed Albatross (EN) from Islas Diego Ramirez are present at the site during the Incubation (Sep-Dec) life-history stage. 860-1613 individuals of Salvin's Albatross (VU) from Snares Islands/Tini Heke are present at the site during the Non-breeding (Feb-Jun) life-history stage. Seaward extensions around breeding colonies; Isla Mocha, Isla Pájaro Niño, Isla Guafo include key near-colony areas for breeding populations of Peruvian Pelican (NT) 4049-6478 individuals, Pink-footed Shearwater (VU) 39000-57000 individuals and Sooty Shearwater (NT) 30000-30000 individuals.
