This Marine IBA is identified using tracking data. It falls within the Uruguay Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) and the Atlantic, Southwest FAO ocean region. The site covers an area of 54997 km2 and borders the coastline. The depth ranges from 0 to 1842 m, with a mean annual wind speed of 2.17 m/s, mean annual sea surface temperature falls between 15 and 20.41 °C and mean annual chlorophyll-a concentrations found to range between 0.33 and 7.68 mg/m3.
2 species trigger IBA criteria at this Marine IBA. BirdLife analyses of tracking data estimates that 463890-463890 individuals of White-chinned Petrel (VU) from South Georgia are present at the site during the Non-breeding (May-Aug) life-history stage. 900000-7500000 individuals of Great Shearwater (LC) from Tristan da Cunha Islands are present at the site during the Non-breeding (Jan-Mar) life-history stage.
