An area of hills and mountains, south of the town of Urbino, mainly covered by broadleaved woodland. Gola del Furlo is a gorge. Main land-uses are forestry, hunting and tourism.

The site is important for breeding raptors.
Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
The main threat is the reduction in extent of open grassland, due to the abandonment of pastures which leads to afforestation with non-native conifers as well as natural forest regeneration.
