An estuary with mudflats, marshes, reedbeds (Phragmites), cliffs, wet meadows and arable fields.

Key biodiversity
The reedbeds are important for roosting passage and wintering passerines.

Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
Water pollution from agricultural run-off is significant. Hunting pressure, including night hunting, is very high, and leads to disturbance.

Protected areas
National Partial International None1,290 ha of IBA covered by Hunting Reserve (Estuaire de la Gironde, 1,290 ha).
