The River Canche estuary, with mudflats, raised saltmarsh, beaches, sand-dunes, freshwater marshes and wet meadows.

Key biodiversity
The site is important for passage and wintering gulls. The site holds 20,000 or more waterbirds in winter, on a regular basis.

Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
No major threats are reported.

Protected areas
National High International High505 ha of IBA covered by Nature Reserve (Baie de Canche, 505 ha). 4,000 ha of IBA covered by Hunting Reserve (Estuaire de la Canche, 4,000 ha). 4,465 ha of IBA covered by Special Protection Area (Estuaire de la Canche, 4,465 ha).
