Central Badajoz mountain ranges

Site description (2000 baseline):

Site location and context
A mountainous area in the centre of Badajoz province with high cliffs, extensive areas of broadleaved evergreen forest, sclerophyllous scrub and dehesas in the valleys. The area is used for livestock- grazing.

Key biodiversity
The site is important for raptors. Species of global conservation concern that do not meet IBA criteria: Aegypius monachus (25 non-breeding individuals).

Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
Forestry and agricultural operations cause disturbance to breeding birds.

Protected areas
National None International Low6,000 ha of IBA covered by Special Protection Area (Sierra Grande de Hornachos, 6,000 ha).
