A rugged landscape with many small gorges, small Quercus and Juniperus woods, scrub and arable cultivation. The main human activities are sheep-grazing and forestry.

This is an important breeding area for cliff-nesting raptors, particularly Gyps fulvus and Neophron percnopterus.
