Site description
Located close to the coastal area of Kalimantan Barat province.

Key biodiversity
Although Brown-backed Flowerpecker Dicaeum everetti is the common bird in this site, but this is the only record for Kalimantan. The other species are Polyplectron schleiermacheri (only call recorded), Malaysian Honeyguide Indicator archipelagicus and Napothera atrigularis, reported from the south-eastern past of the National Park in 1980s (Holmes & Burton 1987).

Non-bird biodiversity: Nasalis larvatus, Presbytis rubicunda, Rheithrosciurus macrotis, Pongo pygmeus, Hylobates agilis, Helarctos malayanus, Neofelis nebulosa, Scleropages formosus and Tomistoma schlegelii (Scot 1989, MacKinnon 1996)

Illegal logging, forest fire, hunting activity, infrastructure development (Anon 1995)

Protected areas
Declared as Gunung Palung National Park based on SK. No. 448/Kpts-IV/1990 24 March 1990 (90000 ha) which is surrounded by Conversion Forest (Anon, 1998).

Habitat and land use
In the National Park: lower mountain forest (35%), lowland evergreen forest (30%), peat-swamp forest and freshwater swamp (35%).Outside the National Park: lowland evergreen forest, peat-swamp forest and secondary habitat.Around 80% of the area outside the national park is still forested.The remaining area used for settlement and agriculture.
