5400 ha of this area declared as Wildlife Sanctuary based on SK Menteri Pertanian No.420/Kpts/Um/7/1979 (Anon 1997, Anon 1998)

Habitat and land use
Gunung Sawal supports lowland rainforest and lower mountain rainforest. This area has hydrological importance for surrounding area. (MacKinnon only few information already known from this site, but based on good forest condition it is predicted that the site is important for biodiversity.
