Site description
Located in north-west Gongshan County, north-west Yunnan Province, the IBA is adjacent to Myanmar in the west, to Gaoligongshan in the east and to Zayü County, Tibet in the north. The Dulong Jiang River is the upper course of the Simeikai Jiang river, and for 91.7 km it follows the boundary of Yunnan Province before entering Myanmar. The vegetation is well preserved, with prominent vertical zonation. The avifauna here has affinities with Indian and Myanmar, and this is the only place where birds such as Tragopan blythii, Brachypteryx hyperythra and Harpactes wardi are found in China.

Key biodiversity

Non-bird biodiversity: Nationally protected plants include Davidia involucrate, Alsophila spinulosa and Taiwania cryptomerioides. Animals include Panthera tigris tigris, Panthera pardus, Neofelis nebulosa, Macaca assamensis, Budorcas taxicolor and Presbytis pileata.
