Pöyrisvuoma mire protection area

Site description
A large area of palsa mire, numerous lakes and ponds and small forested islands east of Pöyrisjärvi lake in northern Finland. The major Pöyrisjoki river traverses the area. Situated far from settlements and roads, the area experiences virtually no human impact.



Key biodiversity
An important breeding area for Arctic peatland avifauna.



Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
There are no known threats. The area is a candidate SAC.



Protected areas
National High International High4,270 ha of IBA covered by Peatland Reserve (Pöyrisvuoma, 4,270 ha). 4,270 ha of IBA covered by Wilderness Area (Pöyrisjärvi, 127,797 ha). 4,270 ha of IBA covered by Special Protection Area (Pöyrisjärven erämaa).
