Porvoo outer archipelago

Site description
A large offshore archipelago in the middle part of the Gulf of Finland. The area holds many islands with rocky or stony shores. The largest of the islands are forested, with areas of meadows and Juniperus stands.

Key biodiversity
An important breeding area for archipelagic avifauna, especially for Sterna caspia.

Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
A research station has been maintained for decades on Söderskär island, and bird migration has been very actively monitored for more than 20 years on Kummelskär island. Part of the area is a candidate SAC.

Protected areas
National Partial International Partial2,134 ha of IBA covered by Protected Area on Private Land (Söderskär, 2,134 ha). 8,338 ha of IBA covered by Specific Protection Area (Långören, 8,338 ha). 10,552 ha of IBA covered by Ramsar Site (Söderskär and Långören, 10,552 ha). 13,061 ha of IBA covered by Special Protection Area (Söderskäin ja Låhgörenin saaristo).
