Site description
The area contains remnant fragments of a raised bog (formerly 30,000 ha in extent), and includes pools, peatlands, marshes, swampy Betula forest and Molinia heathland. The site is situated near to Mariapeel en Deurnesepeel (086), north-east of the city of Weert. This site, together with sites 086 and 088, formed part of a single, larger site (former site NL056) in the previous pan-European IBA inventory (Grimmett and Jones 1989).
Key biodiversity
The site is a roost for Anser fabalis, but counts probably underestimate actual numbers.
