Lake Oudegaasterbrekken

Site description
A complex of freshwater lakes and improved grassland situated to the south-west of the city of Sneek. This site, together with site 062, formed part of a single, larger site (former site NL017) in the previous pan-European IBA inventory (Grimmett and Jones 1989).

Key biodiversity
This is an important roost for geese Anser from surrounding feeding areas. Waterbird numbers quoted are rough estimates.

Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
A compensation scheme is in place for those farmers affected by restrictions on agricultural practices.

Protected areas
National Partial International None162 ha of IBA covered by Nature Reserve (Blauhuester Puollen, 167 ha). 16 ha of IBA covered by Nature Reserve (Grons, Sanmar, Gaastmar, 83 ha).
