IBA Justification

The site was identified as important in 2002 because it was regularly supporting significant populations of the species listed below, meeting ('triggering') IBA criteria.

Populations meeting IBA criteria ('trigger species'):
Species Current IUCN Red List Category Season Year(s) Population estimate at site IBA criteria met
Sarus Crane Grus antigone VU non-breeding 1997-2002 135-377 individuals A1, A4i
White-shouldered Ibis Pseudibis davisoni CR resident 1999 1 breeding pairs A1
Spot-billed Pelican Pelecanus philippensis NT non-breeding 1999 present A1

The current IUCN Red List category may differ from that which was valid at the time of IBA criteria assessment (2002).

Pressure (threats to the trigger species and/or their habitats)
Threat level 1 Threat level 2 Timing Scope Severity Result
Agricultural expansion and intensification annual & perennial non-timber crops - shifting agriculture happening now some of area/population (10-49%) moderate to rapid deterioration high
Agricultural expansion and intensification marine and freshwater aquaculture - industrial aquaculture happening now some of area/population (10-49%) slow but significant deterioration medium
Biological resource use logging & wood harvesting - unintentional effects: subsistence/small scale likely in long term (beyond 4 years) majority/most of area/population (50-90%) moderate to rapid deterioration medium
Pollution air-borne pollutants - type unknown/unrecorded happening now some of area/population (10-49%) slow but significant deterioration medium

Protected-area designation Management planning Other conservation action Result
Little/none of site covered (<10%) No management planning has taken place Very little or no conservation action taking place negligible
