Voornes Duin

Site description
The least spoiled dune area in the Netherlands, located between Oostvoorne (close to 021) and Haringvliet (024). The area includes two lakes (Breedewater, Quackjeswater) and mesotrophic dune-slacks surrounded by Alnus woodland and wet dune-valleys. Hunting does not include wildfowl. This site, together with sites 020 and 023, formed part of a single, larger site (former site NL046) in the previous pan-European IBA inventory (Grimmett and Jones 1989).

Key biodiversity
A small dune-slack holds breeding Platalea leucorodia and Phalacrocorax carbo.

Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
The planned extension of the industrial area of Rotterdam (Maasvlakte), recreation, and leisure aircraft causing disturbance are the main threats.

Protected areas
National High International None312 ha of IBA covered by Nature Reserve (Duinen van Oostvoorne, 312 ha). 800 ha of IBA covered by Nature Reserve (Voornes Duin, 800 ha).
