A deep oligotrophic lake with steep western shores. The northern part is shallow with small reedbeds (Phragmites).

The site is important for wintering ducks and geese.
Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
The main threat is drainage and the over-abstraction of surface water (`Other' threats). There are plans to construct a road on the lake shore.The area is a candidate SAC.
