A hilly area in the far south-east of Banat, on the boundary between the Pannonian lowlands and the Carpathian massif. Extensive plains comprising steppic habitats, agricultural land and vineyards surround forests of oak Quercus, beech Fagus, hornbeam Carpinus, lime Tilia, ash Fraxinus and maple Acer.
The site is important for forest-nesting species. Species of global conservation concern that do not meet IBA criteria: Aquila heliaca (non-breeding) and Crex crex (breeding).
Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
Members of the Bird Protection and Study Society of Vojvodina undertook intensive ornithological research between 1977 and 1997. A management plan for the site is in preparation.
