Site description
A mountainous area dissected by deep valleys with extensive alpine grassland, areas of scrub and some forest.



Key biodiversity
This is an important area for breeding raptors, forest birds and species characteristic of open grassland.



Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
The main threat is from industrial expansion around the lower slopes. Part of the area is a candidate SAC.

National Partial International NonePart of IBA covered by Wildlife Refuge (Korilovou-Kallifytou/Dramas, 2,480 ha). Part of IBA covered by Wildlife Reserve (Xiropotanou/ Xiropotanou-Petrousas, 2,310 ha).
